Last time I was in Africa...

Or more specifically last time I was in Nigeria.  I'm off to Ghana (and surrounding countries) in a week so in lieu of writing anything of note I thought I would link to a blog post from my last trip around those parts.  I'm excited as hell.  Stay tuned for what I hope will be endless new African funk & disco jams.

Scatter Scatter Tropical Soundsystem are fronting up against Babalu at Section 8 for Round One of their annual Battle 8 parties.  We'll be bringing an ephemeral music experience that celebrates the good vibes and dance floor rhythms of African music. Expect the unexpected with a mix of live elements, MCs percussionist and DJs.  Jimmy Caution (Crown Ruler) will be joining us for a guest selector set too.  It is judged by the people so get down, boogie and vote for us!  Free party, good times.

Unfortunately our African brother, Mr Clean himself, Dave Marama has had some health issues recently so a bunch of his funky friends and bandmates are coming together help him out.  A bunch of great African bands and DJs are playing at Howler for the bloke so come down and dance for a good cause!

Tropidelic Funk 45 mix

Brand new mix of all African and tropical funk 45s - all OG records from around the globe mixed live from the 45 (not Serato!). This mix is all about good music; mixing skills were mostly left in the locker in favour of letting the record tell the story.
On it you will hear some of my all-time favourite, not to mention the rarest, gems from deep in my crates. Several of the these I turned up on the side of a road or buried in a market in the country of origin so there are lots of 45s in here that are really special to me.
