DJ Manchild bio

DJ Manchild has been bringing his unique brand of funk to the dancefloors of Melbourne and beyond since early 2001.   From dusty 70's soul 45's to heavy Nigerian afro-funk; from fiery Colombian salsa to the bounce of old-school hip-hop; from the deep disco 12"s of underground NYC to forgotten boogie gems from Trinidad... he will always be digging deep in crates around the globe bringing back that funky booty for the people!

As a radio announcer his show 'The Breakdown' is a Melbourne institution, running since 2004 on Friday afternoons.  The music he features has evolved significantly over the years but the same energy and spirit of adventure has prevailed across the journey.  No matter where or how you hear DJ Manchild you can rest assured that the music will always selected and presented with skill and passion

In 2008 he and two friends who shared a similar passion for West African music founded 18 piece afrobeat ensemble, The Public Opinion Afro Orchestra.  Together they write, record, produce, mix and independently release their music.  Their debut album 'Do Anything, Go Anywhere' was nominated for an ARIA and their recent 45 vinyl-only release on Hope St 'Mr Clean' garnered rave reviews and radio-play across the seas.

Deciding the world needed more good times he founded the Scatter Scatter Soundsystem - putting on a series of tropical style partys and performing with African percussionists, dancers and MCs.  Hosting the likes of Quantic, Ray Lugo, TY and DJ Jumps in a intimate tailored environment, they are fast becoming a fixture.  This was after cutting his teeth being there from the start of Soul-A-Go-Go, Melbourne's long-running, world-renowned funk party.

As a DJ he has supported the likes of Marva Whitney, Quantic, Nas, Public Enemy, Seun Kuti, Femi Kuti, De La Soul, Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, Eddie Bo, Grandmaster Flash, Mulatu Astatke, Pharoah Monch, Roy Ayers, Mos Def, Norman Jay MBE, Ghostface Killah, MF Doom, Madlib, The Black Keys, DJ Roc Raida, Betty Harris, TY and DJ Jazzy Jeff.

He has also played onstage with The Beatnuts, Jeru Tha Damaja, Nfa, Remi, DJ Z-Trip and Aloe Blacc
